USD to INR Converter — Chrome Extension

Last updated: June 2025

Data Collection

This extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information, browsing history, or page content.

All currency detection and conversion happens entirely on your device. No data is sent to any server operated by the extension developer.

Network Requests

The extension makes exactly one type of network request: fetching the current USD-to-INR exchange rate from a free public API (open.er-api.com or api.exchangerate.host).

These requests contain no personal data, no page content, and no browsing information. They are simple GET requests that return only a currency exchange rate number.

These requests happen approximately once every 45 minutes in the background.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions for the stated purposes:

storage: To cache the exchange rate locally on your device, avoiding repeated network requests.
alarms: To periodically refresh the exchange rate in the background.
Host permissions (API endpoints): To fetch the exchange rate from public currency APIs.
Content script on all URLs: To detect USD amounts in webpage text and show INR tooltips on hover.

Third-Party Services

The extension queries free public currency exchange rate APIs. These services may log standard HTTP request metadata (IP address, timestamp) as part of their normal operation. Refer to their respective privacy policies:

open.er-api.com  |  api.exchangerate.host
